Thailand eyes role as major biofuels hub by 2016

In Thailand, Krairit Nilkuha, director-general of the national government’s Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency, told the Bangkok Post that Thailand will be a major global renewable energy export hub by 2016, with alternative fuels demand projected to increase to 202 Mgy of ethanol, and 190 Mgy of biodiesel, up 54 percent overall.

According to Nilkuha, Thailand is now relying primarily on locally produced technology and said that as much as $12 billion has been invested in the renewable energy sector.
