Eco tech Fuels signs MOU with Sioux to produce high-octane torquazine from MSW in South Dakota

In South Dakota, Eco Tech Fuels signed an MOU with the Crow Creek Sioux Tribe to convert municipal solid waste (MSW) to torquazine, a fuel additive that produces a higher octane level than ethanol,. and burns cleaner, according to a report in the Argus Leader.

The proposed $39 million plant will utilize 100 tons of landfill per day to produce up to 6 Mgy of torquazine, which can be blended with gasoline or used on an unblended basis in flex fuel vehicles. The proposed plant would open in late 2011 or early 2012, and the Cow Creek Tribe will received 10 percent of profits, or up to 33 percent if the tribe invests into the project or is instrumental in securing federal grants.
