In California, Cereplast CEO Scheer said that “as the result of 20 years of high priced oil, petroleum-based plastics with eventually become obsolete in the future and clear the way for alternatives.”

Cereplast, which designs and manufactures proprietary bio-based, sustainable plastics which are used as substitutes for petroleum-based plastics in all major converting processes – such as injection molding, thermoforming, blow molding and extrusions, cited a University of Utrecht study which estimated that global demand for bioplastics, including plastic resins that are biodegradable or derived from plant-based sources, will increase by 400% to 890,000 metric tons by 2013.
