WW Moss proposes 100-acre algae farm in Oregon

In Oregon, WW Moss has proposed a 100-acre algal biofuels facility for the Port of Umatilla, on a site near the Two Rivers Correctional Institution.

The company has proposed an initial $50 million algae farm on a 20 acres parcel with an expansion to five modules totaling 100 acres over a five-ear period. The company said it would produce biodiesel, omega-3 fatty acids for the nutraceutical market and animal protein supplements. The company said that it had maintained a pilot for two years in its Tacoma-area facility.

“Oregon has some very attractive incentives for the type of business we’re trying to operate,” Moss CEO John Anderson told The Oregonian. “The business energy tax credit makes it very, very attractive. We don’t have to have the BETC to be profitable. We do need the BETC to finance the growth of the business.”
