One Stop Shopping For Post-Oil Power

If you think that an economic recession spelled the end of solar-energy, think again.

Today, I’d like to spend some time tell you about First Solar (NASDAQ:FSLR).

As one of the most prospective solar energy firms in operation today, First Solar’s business model puts an emphasis on maximizing the efficiency of photovoltiac films.

This film, a semi-conductive layer that converts electromagnetic energy inherent in light into consumer-friendly electricity, has long represented a major hurdle in the solar energy market for one main reason:

On a practical level, photovoltiac cells have struggled to provide a significant, economically-viable source of energy for a wide spectrum of consumers.

But this is all about to change.

Today, First Solar is pioneering new, super-efficient photovoltiac processes aimed at decreasing the cost of power.

To date, they’ve managed the lowest per watt price in the industry of just 87 cents.

The continued commitment to lowering this number even further represents not just a major step towards the mass-marketing of a renewable energy source, but a broad-minded, long-term philosophy specifically tailored to succeed in the late-fossil-fuel era we’re entering into today.

First Solar’s spectrum of products ranges from roof-top power-generation arrays to open-field arrays with capacities of up to 40 megawatts.

And they don’t stop at mere production.

The Phoenix-based firm also specializes in the ongoing management of their products from the earliest stages of production, all the way through removal and recycling.

Although down from this time last year and currently trading at around $120/share, First Solar, is expected to rebound as market forces recover from recession-driven investor reluctance.

Since its debut in late 2006, First Solar has enjoyed an overall price gain of just around 500%.

With current global trends in renewables looking only to grow, First Solar’s established reputation, versatile product line and efficiency-focused research and development philosophy should position them well within one of the prospective segments of this aggressively expanding sector.

Key your eye out for new developments.

To a greener future.
